Ringworm, I respectfully disagree with you on this one. I'm not sure how long ago you wrestled but many who wrestled during their high school career in years past began wrestling their freshman year. If this were still the case, your assertion would be accurate.

However, these days, kids begin wrestling at 4 years old and rapidly progress. You have 7 year olds riding legs these days, it's insane! If you want to see an example, attend an AAU tournament one Saturday.

But specifically to your point, the 106 lb 3A champ is a freshman but he has been wrestling since he could walk. He is a multiple time AAU national champ who wrestles throughout the entire country year round. I know him personally as my son has wrestled on the NC Elementary team with him twice and he is a beast.

Our 106 lb 2A champ Dakota Roark is just as much of a beast who also has been wrestling since he was very young, wrestles year round, and has competed nationally many times in AAU. Yes I know him personally too and would argue that he would be able to contend for a state championship regardless of the weight class, he just happens to be a smaller wrestler at his age.

Winning a state championship is a great feat indeed! I won two myself 103 my fr year "before they changed the weight classes" and 126 my sr year after they changed them! But winning at 106 as jr is not really that big of a deal if you think about it! I mean there are girls that have won states at 106 "in other states"...you can be a great wrestler and not win at 145 or 152 or any other weight....But at 106 you are wrestling mostly freshmen and sophomores some of which are just pulled in the wrestling room because they are small....You can be just a good wrestler and win states at 106....all you have to be is good at being small...But like I said winning a state championship is a great feat and back 2 back is awesome! even if they are both at 106
